Sharing on PENN

Room 15 are sharing something a little different today.  For the last few months we’ve been enjoying the adventures of Piggie and an elephant named Gerald thanks to the books of Mo Willems.  Over the last few weeks we’ve been creating our own Piggie and Gerald stories.  Check out our blogs later this week for even more Piggie and Elephant creations.

Narrative Writing: Caves

At the end of last week, Room 15 were doing some narrative writing about caves.  All our writing is on our individual blogs and Mrs Belt has chosen a few to share on our class blog.

Exploring Capacity

On Friday, Room 15 used water to measure capacity in a number of different jars and containers.  We worked in small groups and Mrs Belt was really impressed at how well we collaborated and shared with our peers.  Here are a few photos from they day.

All learners posted their learning on their blogs - Mrs Belt has chosen a few to share on the class blog here:

Exploring Yeast

As part of our inquiry focus this term, Room 15 have been exploring the ingredients that make bread.  Today we were looking at yeast and what reactions and changes occur when added to warm water and sugar.

Here are some photos and a few of the stories created by the learners in Room 15.  Check out their blogs for more!

YOLANDA:

Yesterday we did some experiment we had   Five Different  things we had sugar and warm water   and we  put  our experiment on the  heater and the  next day there was water in it and my  teacher told Leah to go and   take the Jar and tamped it all out and she told some people to came and did some things with her.

LEAH:

Yesterday room 15 was making yeast the ingredients was warm water and sugar and yeast and we use the measuring spoon. When we finish our yeast we had to put it beside the heater after school we looked at it. When it was morning we looked at it. After that we smell the yeast and when we smell the yeast we had to put our bags and lunchbox away. This morning when the second bell was gone we had to go on the mat and line up in the front of the door. When we lined up we went to the assembly. When we went to the assembly we had to sit down. After the assembly it look like there was foam on top and then the foam sunk down again.

Team Athletics

Just before lunch today the whole of Team 3 joined together to practice some of the skills needed for our athletics day, which is coming up in Week 5.  There are 5 rotations, and each class is having a turn at each rotation over the coming weeks.  Today Room 15 did some work with skipping ropes and some relay races.  Here are some photos from our first team session.

Sensational Soccer

Today Room 15 started our Kiwisport sessions for this term, and we're really excited to be learning .... Soccer!  We played a great game of Sharks and Islands today and learnt some great dribbling skills.  We finished our session with some short games.  We're really looking forward to next week!

Who stole the bread?

Today Room 15 were writing narratives, using our imagination to document who stole the bread?  We brainstormed some wonderful ideas, and then each learner was able to craft their story using either those ideas or their own.  Mrs Belt was really impressed with the range of ideas - check out a few here:

BRENDON

There was a  scary  man who took the bread and threw it in a  haunted maze.  Another man ran into  the haunted maze.  There were spiders and snakes.  He was afraid but he found the bread before he fell into a trap. His left arm was holding on to the edge and he pulled himself out of the trap.  He grabbed the bread and ate it before anyone else could steal it.

LEYLANI

In my house I put my bread on the table. When it was night time I locked the doors and the  windows. When I was sleeping a  stranger came in my house and he took the bread that was on the table in the  kitchen . When I woke up I went in the kitchen and the bread that was on the table was gone.  I rang the police and I told them that a stranger came into my house and took the bread . After that when the police were coming to my house, the police saw the stranger at the park . The police took the stranger to jail and the police gave the bread back
to me .

PATIENCE

One day there was a miniature hobbit house .That hobbit house had a family in it. One rainy morning the mum and her pet horse went to the  shop. She got some bread and some milk and then the lady went lazily home with her horse. The lady was cooking the dinner for her family. Then a giant hand came through the door and took the bread. After the giant took the bread he went loudly back to his cave. When he got to his cave he felt really bad.So the next day he gave her bread back and they lived  happily ever after  .

Tasting the bread

Today we wrote about our experiences tasting the bread and talked about why they all look and taste different.  All our stories are on our blogs, but check out these couple of examples:

Precious
On Wednesday my class tasted lots of different types of bread. Before we were allowed to eat the breads we had to take some photos and then put the photos onto my Explain Everything. Then we get a plate and get all the different types of bread and tasted it and smell it and then you have to feel it. After I finished those three things I had to write the names of the breads and write in how it feels and what it tasted and what it feels like and then you are finished. My favourite bread will be ciabatta because that is the one that i really like eating at my house.

Jerry
On Tuesday we had 6 different breads made of different ingredients. Their was pita bread and it was so hard. It was cheesy but it was so good when room 15 ate the bread and we wrote  the different  ingredients. My favourite bread was the White bread because it has got different ingredients than the other bread.

Amazing Olympians

Yesterday the sun shone brightly and we had our school Olympics Day.  The learners in Room 15 were split across a variety of countries and all had fun competing in events such as soccer, gumboot throwing, obstacle courses and ball relays.

At the end of the day, even though Fiji took out the gold medal, everyone that competed was a winner.  Check out a few photos from the day:

Tasting bread

As part of our science inquiry this term, Room 15 looking at bread, building to making our own in a few weeks.

Today we were looking at different types of bread and comparing:
appearance - what it looks like
texture - what it feels like
taste - what it tastes like

Mrs Belt set up the activity so that we could use photographs to help document our learning.  Check out these photos of us as we compared the different breads:

Well done Ozzy!!

Last term we enjoyed having Hiwi the Kiwi visit Pt England School.  There was a school wide competition to win a fishing rod.  To participate, learners needed to write a story about the messages that the Minstrel delivered during his show.  It was awesome that Ozzy from Room 15 won the prize.  Today he collected his reward - we're looking forward to hearing about all the fish that Ozzy catches.

Here is Ozzy's competition winning writing along with the picture he carefully created in his own time at home:

If you go fishing at the beach you will need to buy five sunscreen. You have to take your life jacket and a fish ruler to measure the fish. When you catch a fish you will have to put it in the bucket  with ice and you will have to get some of the saltwater. You will need to put your glove on. When you hold the fish with your fish glove you will need to put a wet towel under the fish so it doesn't get bad. It is important  to make sure  the seagulls do not eat the plastic. Take the plastic away from the seagulls and if you see plastic in the water you will need to get it. In the water scare the seagull and do not kill it with a bucket of water.  Only scare it with your water blaster gun if you have one scare it.

Immersion Assembly

Following our Immersion Assembly today, Room 15 wrote about the things they enjoyed most.  All our stories will publish on our individual blogs over the coming days, but Mrs Belt is sharing some on our Class Blog here:

At the Immersion assembly there were lots of people doing explosions with lot of different tools. When it was time for team 5 to come up there was a man called Mr Fuzzy Wuzzy Vottom and his slave. His slave  put water balloons on Mrs Tele’as  head twice and that was funny. Then after Mrs Tele'as turn it was Miss Berry's  turn and  Mr Fuzzy Wuzzy Vottom’s slave was shacking a can and opened it up and the drink went every where like an explosion but Miss Berry put on some goggles and it was so funny and cool too.

At the Assembly  this morning we were watching some funny videos.
Team 1 is learning about old nicest witches.
Team 2 is learning about cooking.Team 3 is learning about science.
Team 4 is learning about pt England myth busters.
Team 5 is learning about liquid and gas or solids.
My favourite part was when I got to eat a sweet corn  pandcake.
Later on we sang Ch-ch - ch -ch-changes soing.
The assembly was good.

At the assembly people ate pancakes. I love pancakes. Pancakes  are yummy and if I ate one it will be yummy. I like team threes movie. In team threes movie we were learning about cooking so they showed a movie how to make food. Team 5 had a lovely movie. Mr  Fuzzy  Wuzzy  told his slave to do stuff for him.  He told his slave  to put the water balloon  on top of Mrs Tele’as head.  Then he told her to put the two  drinks on Miss Berry's  face. At the end he told her to the ice inside Miss Clarke's shirt. Mr Fuzzy Wuzzy Vottom tricked her and put a water balloon  on her head.

In the  immersion assembly the whole school of Pt England went to the assembly because there was something special. When the whole school got there Mr Burt and Mrs Nua said where is Mrs Garden and Mr J. When Mr Burt stopped talking we heard an explosion. Then Mr J was running and he fell down on the stage.  We all started laughing at him. Then Mr Fuzzy Wuzzy  Vottom said to us this is my science partner, Mrs slave. Mr Fuzzy Wuzzy and Mrs slave bought a fuzzy drink and water balloons. First up was Mrs Tele’a.  Mrs slave dropped two water balloons on Mrs Tele’as head. She got wet! Next up was Miss Berry and Mrs slave splashed two Pepsi cans in her face. When they were finished they had to wipe their faces and get off the stage. The audience were laughing and laughing.
